2.5.3.4. Files on hosting weigh more than on the device

There are situations when the same files in Windows and Linux take up different disk space. The hosting uses an operating system of the UNIX family. The reason why files occupy different sizes in Windows and Linux arises from the fact that completely different file systems are used and, accordingly, the principle of storing information, as well as the way it is calculated.

Linux directories are also regular files with a special attribute. Such a file contains a list of inodes that are in it as subdirectories and files. The minimum file size in Linux is 4 KB, so each directory has a minimum size of 4 KB, and if there are many nested objects, then the difference may be even more pronounced.
