2.5.3.4. File sizes on hosting are larger than on devices
There are situations where the same files take up different amounts of disk space in Windows and Linux. The hosting service uses a UNIX-based operating system. The reason files have different sizes in Windows and Linux is that they use completely different file systems and, consequently, different methods of storing and calculating file sizes.
Directories in Linux are also ordinary files with a special attribute. Such a file contains a list of inodes that reside within it as subdirectories and files. The minimum file size in Linux is 4 KB, so each directory has a minimum size of 4 KB; if there are many nested objects, the difference may be even more pronounced.
