2.15.1.2.1. Notification about requirement to point domain to hosting account IP
When attempting to install a free Let's Encrypt certificate, a notification may appear stating that the domain needs to be pointed to the IP of the hosting account:
The notification means that the domain's address records are not being returned or do not point to the correct IP address. Correct domain pointing is a prerequisite for obtaining a certificate.
Possible reasons
Domain status
The domain is not registered, paid for, or active.
Solution:
- Depending on the situation:
- Register the domain (if not already registered).
- Renew the domain (if not already renewed).
- Find out from the current registrar the reasons for the domain's inoperability and eliminate them (if it is registered and paid for but not active).
- Check the domain settings and make sure that it is correctly pointed to the hosting account.
- Wait for the DNS cache to refresh (1-24 hours).
Domain settings
The domain is not pointed to the hosting account or is pointed incorrectly.
Solution:
- Check the domain settings and make sure it is correctly pointed to the hosting account:
- If you install a certificate for a domain or subdomain, check the following points:
- If the domain is served on our NS, then you need to check its settings and make changes to them in domain settings.
- If the domain is hosted on third-party NS, changes should be made in the panel of the owner of these NS, not in our panel. To point the domain to our hosting, you can use the instructions.
- If you install a wildcard certificate:
- Or the domain must be served on our NS.
- Either in site settings the processing requests to non-existent subdomains must be disabled, and the
*.example.comoption must not be enabled when submitting a certificate installation request.
- Wait for the DNS cache to refresh (1-24 hours).
DNS cache
The DNS cache did not refresh after registering, renewing, or changing domain settings. Just wait for the DNS cache to refresh (1-24 hours).
