3.1.2.5. Subsidiary NS

Important points:

  • The domain must service us (we should be his current registrar).
  • The servers that will be used as child NSs must have the appropriate software is installed and configured, necessary for DNS to work.
  • Child NSs do not return standard address records by default, they require add such records within the primary domain.

Subsidiary NSs are a domain's own DNS servers, which are hosted on subdomains of the same domain (e.g., the NS of the domain example.com have addresses ns1.example.com and ns1.example.com). To avoid looping in the DNS system when determining IP addresses for such NSs, it is necessary to add child NSs (Glue Records) in the domain zone registry and specify their IP addresses.

  1. Open the section "Child NS ".
  2. At the top of the page, click "Add a child NS".
  3. Specify the data of the child NS and click "Save":
    • "Subdomain" — subdomain name (e.g., for ns1.example.com need to indicate ns1).
    • "IPv4" — IPv4 address.
    • "IPv6" — IPv6 address (only for registries that support such addresses).
  4. On each child NS, add records of the type A and AAAA with the same subdomains and the same IP addresses.
